APO

Freelance Project

Freelance project for Edbotics, a S.T.E.M based educational robot design. I was task to explore
ideas for robots, which have a brief structure.

for Edbotics

I focused on affordable, portable and enjoyable as the keyword for my design. Play is one of the best ways to learn. In order to get kids engaged, we have to make it more accessible. So the size has to be portable like you will bring it with you in your pocket. Secondly, we cut the cost of the parts to make them affordable while capable of performs all kinds of activities. Last we have to add the cherry by making the experience fun and educational at the same time.

Some interactive accessories will be included in the starter kit, so that they are ready for play out of the box. It can also showcase the capability of APO and inspire new ways to have fun or even DIY.

Since we do not want to discourage beginners, I kept the physical interface to allow them to do simple commands and have fun. The interface was unmarked because buttons can be remapped and reprogram via computer or phones. So that advance users can still find it interesting to play around.

Size of an apple

APO 's size is around an apple size. Younger age groups tend to prefer items with some size. Also, it's best to have a larger battery, so that no one would be stopped from playing so often by the electricity. So size that fits in the palm and easy to carry would be optimal.
